It has only been about 8-9 months that I have really gotten into canning and making sure that my family has a 3 months supply of everyday food. With the help of my sister (she has the canner) and some in depth meal planning, I am certainly on my way.
This past month we ordered some apples. 4 - 38 lb. boxes actually. 2 of my sisters came over and we got to work. Thanks to Trish, we borrowed her dehydrator and sauce maker and we got to work. We made lots of applesauce, dehydrated apples slices, and lots of apple pie filling. I think a close count in the end was 32 jars of Applessauce, 21 jars of filling, and 2 full processings of dehydrated apples slices. We were so happy to be done, but so glad to have all this yummy food.
Just a few days later I went to an enrichment night for making pies. I have NEVER made a pie before. Not even with a store bought crust. So this was going to be an experience with a HOMEMADE CRUST. So I took one of my newly finished Apple Pie Fillings and off I went. OK, so the experience didn't go perfect. My curst was a bit too dry, but I made it work. It didn't look exactly PRETTY, but when I came home to bake it....Ohh lala, it was SOOO YUMMY.
Maybe I'll have better luck next time.

Wow! Look at all that yummy apple stuff! What a treat! I'm glad you made good use of the dehydrator and saucer. Isn't that fun?!
:)
YUMMY! Will I get to reap some of those benefits!?!
I would like a pie from you for Christmas please. ;)
Also, your post about Kruz on the fence??? My kids started doing that too a few weeks ago. How did they get up there? They are all Spidermen.
It looks yummy! And I'm jealous about all your canning. I am in trouble if the world ends...
Shanen, thanks so much for the heads up about Heidi & Chris's baby girl. I had no idea what was going on. I hadn't checked their blog in a while. I can't imagine what they're going through. I hope that Jersey continues to fight. She sounds like she's a tough little girl. Hope you guys are doing well.
