"BIG BOYS GO...

Potty in the toilet, BIG BOYS GET TREATS!!!" This is the chant around our house lately. We are moving on to a new phase over here. It started back the week before Labor Day. Kruz woke up one morning with a dry diaper. What? How can that be? So I took him into the toilet and sat him down. Now mind you, he was not quite 2 1/2 and I didn't have any brothers, and he is my only boy. How in the world do I potty train a boy??? So I sat him down, and he didn't go. We waited, he didn't go. So I put his diaper back on and went about my morning. Who has time to sit at the toilet when two girls need to get ready for school? This happened 2 more times this week and he still wouldn't go in the toilet for me. Was I doing something wrong? Was he supposed to be standing? I guess he's just not ready.

On Tuesday morning (the day after Labor Day) we were up early, 5:30 and packing up the car to leave for the beach. Kruz had a dry diaper AGAIN, so I put him on the toilet. Nope, wouldn't go. About 20 minutes later Josh said, "Why isn't Kruz dressed?" I told him about the dry diaper and how I didn't have time to just sit with him in the bathroom, so Josh takes him in there. And wouldn't you know it....HE GOES IN THE TOILET!!! He gets his treat (Swedish Fish) and we are off to the beach.

The next morning, we are at the beach and he wakes up dry again. Yep, Josh takes him into the bathroom and he goes. We are thinking "Do kids really get potty trained at night, before the daytime?" He did this a couple of more times, in the morning, but not really during the day.

We got back from the beach, and Josh kept saying "We need to potty train him." I knew that we were getting close, but I didn't think he was quite ready yet. We still had some dry diapers in the the mornings, and a few potty's during the day, but I wasn't ready to go "cold turkey" yet. And that is the ONLY WAY we have potty trained the girls. When we take the diapers off, THEY DON'T GO BACK ON. So I wasn't ready quite yet.

Until last week. It started Wednesday morning. Dry diaper, and then at some point Kruz said, "I go potty in toilet." We ran to the bathroom and watta ya know, he went. He didn't have a wet diaper ALL DAY. Same thing happened Thursday, except for the "poops". Friday I had to substitute at the school and he was at my sisters. He didn't tell her he had to go "potty" and was wet when I got here. (Slight set back) On Saturday he was dry when he woke up, we went to soccer games early in the morning, Kruz and I went to Walmart in between games to buy "BIG BOY UNDIES" and when we got home he was dry, and went to the bathroom.

He actually told his nursery teacher at church on Sunday that he needed to go, and went. Things were going well, but I just needed 1 FULL DAY AT HOME. That didn't happen Monday or Tuesday, but today WEDNESDAY is the day.

He woke up dry, went to the bathroom and the UNDIES WERE ON!!! I am happy to report SO FAR....no accidents. He is taking a nap right now, (cross your finders) so we will see. He has still yet to go poop in the toilet, so I hope he doesn't wake up with a "mess" for me.

So here are the cute pictures and fun undies he picked out.

Yay no more diapers! We went cold turkey with Jack and it totally worked. You are so lucky, I wish we were out of the diaper phase.

Oh, I am so jealous! My boys have always potty trained very late...likeat age 3 1/2!! I just never wanted to push it before they were ready and it just happened. HOWEVER, we are going on a Disney cruise in January and I can't leave my baby in the nursery unless he's potty trained! Talk about motivation! You give me hope....I may have to give it a whirl.

Figures that you leave him with me and I'm the setback! Oh well. All I can say is I asked him multiple times and I always got the "no." I'm glad things have been going so well for you. I'll have to come to you for pointers when it's time for Isaac. Boys scare me!

Way to go Kruz! I love his skinny bum and farmer tanned legs. Are his shorts falling off now too that he has no diaper bum to help fill them out??

Kruz is getting so big and adorable. Love your blog!
Love seeing your pictures. Courtney's girl Keira reminds me so much of Kobi because she has the same hair and eye color but also because she is so independent. She is my only brown eyed grandchild and she is a beauty.
