Running Club

Running Club 2009

Another year of Running Club races started today, and I did not have high expectations. The kids are supposed to be running 4 laps at school, and Kylee was barely running 2, on occasion 3, and Kobi was ALWAYS walking and barely finishing 1. I couldn't get her to run to save my life. No motivation in this kid at all. Finally at the beginning of last week I told them both that I was gonna stop coming because it was a waste of time. They were definitely there to socialize.

Kylee immediately started running more and came home 2 days in a row with 4 dots. She was excited. Kobi actually came home with 2 dots and I was impressed. We told the girls last night to just do their best, but also kinda prepared Kylee that she might not get 1st place like last year . Here We also kinda told Kobi that if she walked most of it, she wouldn't be allowed to participate in the races anymore.
So again, I wasn't really holding my breath today. We got to the meet and it was their school's turn to help with the event. Just like last year. So I thought I was being smart and I said I wanted to help at the finish line. Obviously I wasn't thinking clearly because I had to stand at the finish line the ENTIRE time. I didn't see them run AT ALL!!! The only thing I know is that at I was getting the girls in a single file line as the crossed the finish line, I looked up at one point and Kylee was on her way to the finish line. NO WAY!!! She got there so fast. I gave her a HUGE hug and she wasn't even breathing hard. She didn't even break a sweat. I couldn't believe it. I started to recognize some other 2nd graders coming in after her and was trying to remember if I had seen any come in before her. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT # THEY GAVE HER!!!

I fully expected Kobi to be bringing up the rear. I remember when I did see her coming, she was ACTUALLY RUNNING. I was thinking, "wow, there is still a lot of kids behind her." I gave her a HUGE hug also and waited until the final kids crossed the finish line. I was then able to go over to the ramada and talk to Josh and my parents who were there to cheer them on, and give me the "report" of how they did. Kylee ROCKED IT!! She was given #44 and Josh timed her as running the 1.5 miles in under 10 minutes. She was thrilled and my dad was pretty sure she got 1st. Kobi was given #158. We had NO IDEA how she did, but all three of them said she spent a good amount of time running.

We waited for awards and got nervous waiting. As the started reading the 2nd grade girls starting with 5th place, I was beginning to doubt it all again. I knew that she had beat the 4th place girl, and then 1st place..."Kylee Hough from Freedom." We all cheered and she was so excited. She had a HUGE smile on her face.

We waited for Kinders also and Kobi didn't place in the top 5. We didn't expect her too, and she wasn't sad at all. We were so proud of her!!!. We did find out though that the 4th place girl in Kindergarten got # 139, so Kobi was overall only 19 total girls back from 4th place. So who knows, maybe that will motivate her to run more at practice.

Kylee 1st place
Kobi # 158

We were so proud of them that Kylee requested McDonalds for dinner to celebrate. We picked Kruz up from G & G Hough's and then went to dinner. They were thrilled.

That's fantastic. It sounds like they take after their mom. They both look so happy and so proud of themselves.

It's so rewarding to see your children be successful and succeed. I'm sure you and Josh were so proud of them! Glad that they enjoyed it too!

Way to go girlies!! That is awesome Kylee came in first on her home court again. I can just see her running with her "I Love Troy" shorts!! It's crazy to think Kobi is out there with her. I'm glad they are working so hard and it's paying off!
