I have been a little obsessed lately with having a 90 day supply of food for my family. Not just having a lot of food, but down to every detail. I am lucky that my sister and I are doing this together, it certainly makes it easier, but we are into DETAILS. We have our menu's planned for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner and EVERYTHING we would need to go along with it.
We are planning for "worst case scenario." No electricity, No running water. Which means no freezer, refrigerator, or stove/oven.
We are canning like crazy, reorganizing often, rotating food weekly, and trying to get our "Food Storage Folders" completely up to date with:
- What Meals we have prepared - and all the conversion tables
- The recipes for our meals
- How much food we have already
- and How much more food we need to buy?
- How much water do we need?
- How much propane will it require?
- Do we know how to cook in a Box Oven?
- Where all our food is located
Does anyone else have this crazy obsession? Do you have an organized way to have this all in one folder? Do you have any yummy food storage recipes you want to share? Do you "can" on a weekly basis?
We are trying to "can" often and really looking at the ads to see what is the best price of the week. This week?? Tomatoes at Sprouts 3lbs for a Dollar. Yahoo.
I have added a sidebar with some of the prepardness blogs that I like best. It you have found any others, let me know.
Please, give me ideas if you are also doing this, any tips and different thoughts are great.
PS. Does anyone even read my blog anymore?
I don't blame you if you don't, I have been a bad blog reader lately.

I do, I read it! I'm trying to become obsessed with my 3 month supply, but I really need to buy a pressure canner. I really want to do what you and your sister are doing and get detailed!
Yes we all still read your blog! :) I want in on the canning fun.
I read your blog! I just don't know how to comment because I use Google Reader. I log into my own blog then go to the link on the sidebar in order to leave a comment and it is a pain. I need to learn how to do it through Reader but haven't yet. But I do read!!!!
I read it too! How good of you to be so prepared. I wouldn't even know where to start.
I always read your blog!!!
Did I fail somewhere to tell you so?
If so... it's not you... it's me.
I am seriously impressed with your organization level. Seriously. Do I hear, "Stake Preparedness Specialist" in the works?! LOL. Seriously, though. I'm not really kidding. :P
Oh, Shanen, I miss you! Do come out and play soon. Do. :)
Oh I wish I had your problem!!
That is great you are sooo organized with your food storage. I need to get busy!! You should post a days worth of food-what you will make etc. It would be interesting (and good to have some ideas) to see what you would have if there was no electricty, etc. Yes, I am very impressed! Good job!!!
Yes I read! But it's post like this that remind me how terribly lacking I am and how daunting food storage can be. I wish I could come can along with you guys. I'm grateful for your tips though!
I read too! I'm so super impressed with your organization and determination to have your 90 day supply. It's inspiring. Really.
Ahhh the bad next door neighbor here. I do read and I forget to leave comments because I get pulled away mid paragraph and well... YOU KNOW THE REST. It is all getting better now...Except for the whole sick thing now.
I have been playing around of facebook a lot too. I should be cleaning this house though!!!
One day we will all be outside playing and get to chat again! Miss those days.
OH YEAH.. NOPE.. I DON'T CAN! HEHEHE
ofcourse I read your blog, I am just bad at leaving comments, sorry. I am so impressed with you and your 90 day supply. I really need to get going on ours. I do have some, but not 90 days. Thanks for being a great example!!
I to am wondering about that whole Stake Canning Specialist calling!! ;o) How about just an assistant - opps, I suppose you are that by default! Love you!
I love your blog!! You and Jenn had me so excited about canning and my 90 day supply. You make it seem so enjoyable and fun and rewarding...and you are so good at it!!
Way to go Shanen! I am super impressed! What are you canning weekly?? I usually only can in the summer time when we get cheap produce. My sister cans chicken and so I've been looking for a killer deal to stock up and try that. Have you done chicken? Apparently it's super easy an tastes great! I'll send you the instructions if you're interested!
Keep up the good work....I read your blog! :)
I'm so impressed!!! It's making me feel a little guily that I need to work a little harder at my 3 month supply. You are motivating me!!
