I just want to have this recorded, even thought most of you that read my blog were already in church today and know this. But I received a new calling today as a Relief Society Teacher, to teach on the 2nd Sunday of each month.
I was extended this calling late Wednesday night, and was also informed that this coming Sunday was the 2nd Sunday and could I be prepared to teach. I said yes.
Over the next couple of days I read and reread the lesson on Missionary Service and really got to writing it on Saturday when my house was completely quiet (thanks Jenn). I felt pretty good about it late last night as I was going to bed. I had some pictures of family members in frames that I wanted to decorate the table with, but there was really one picture that I WANTED. It lookes like this.

This is my new favorite picture and I saw it in the hallway of the Stake Offices a few weeks back. I just love it, and Josh and I decided it needed to be in Kruz's bedroom. I searched online and found the picture, and look forward to ordering it for him.
But I needed that picture now. I asked Josh about it, and he said they would let me use it. I wasn't so sure, but he said he would ask President Riggs (Stake 1st Counselor) about it in the morning.
He didn't get a chance to see him at all before church, and then after sacrament, I decided to sit out on the couch and look over my lesson. Brother Mortenson (Stake ES) came out of the offices and asked if I needed to renew my recommend. I told him "no", but asked instead about the picture. He said he didn't know, but said "lets go ask." I followed him back to the High Council Room and at the far end of the table was the whole Stake Presidency. President Richardson, President Riggs, and President Matheson and a few others. Because of Josh, we have gotten to know each of these men, so it wasn't so intimidating to talk to them all.
I asked them about the picture, and told them I was teaching in Relief Society and wondered if I was allowed to borrow it. They informed me that all the pictured were secured to the walls and could only be removed with a certain tool, that I guess wasn't available right now. My heart sunk, but it was only a HUGE "I hope" on my part anyways. I mean really, take a picture down from the Stake Offices to use for my lesson???
But without skipping a beat President Richardson asked how long I had until Relief Society. I said probably 45 minutes since Sacrament had just ended. He got up from his chair and said, "OK I will be right back. I have the same picture in my office at home, I will go get it for you."
WHAT!!! I quickly told him no, that it was ok, and he really didn't need to. He didn't listen. He was out the door and back in about 15 minutes. Seriously. The Stake President got up from his meeting or whatever he was doing and went home to get me a picture for my lesson. I couldn't believe it. I still can't believe it. I was so grateful to him, and just not surprised at all at the complete service he rendered to me.
If I could only be more like that. Able to STOP DOING whatever I am doing, to help someone else. Unbelievable. I was humbled to be able to display that picture today during my lesson and I can't wait to have one of my own.

I love Pres. Richardson- he is so amazing! Your lesson was so awesome! I can't wait to hear the next one. You are always so prepared w/visuals & handouts- I know for me the lesson seems to sink in better with visuals & handouts! The spirit was strong yesterday wasn't it? Thank you for inviting me to participate!!
Thank you for your wonderful lesson yesterday. I agree that the presence of the spirit was strong the RS room yesterday. I have a special place in my heart for missionaries and missionary work. As you know Marlin is a convert, as well as my Mom was many years ago. I am so grateful that she chose to me a member of the church. Thanks again for that wonderful lession.
I wish so much that I could have been in RS for your whole lesson. The part I heard was fabulous! I love that you shared this story about Pres. Richardson. He is so awesome!
You will love teaching RS. You obviously have a strength in teaching, too. I LOVE that calling. I think it's my favorite I have ever had. Miss it.
Anyhow, thanks for preparing by the spirit. It was obvious that prayer and study had been utilized in preparation for giving the lesson. The room was filled with the spirit. Thank you, Shanen! You are amazing!
You'll be a wonderful teacher! Wish I weren't in primary so that I could attend relief society and see you teach.
What a great story! It sounds like Pres. Richardson was the perfect example to use for your lesson as well. I'm sure you're going to do a fantastic job in your new calling...and just think, no more dealing with the demands of Enrichment. Hooray!
I am sad that I missed your lesson, I'm sure that It was wonderful! Congrats on your new calling. I am in Utah but I really want to get together with you and visit with you about MY new calling! I am a little bit overwhelmed, I have big shoes to fill. I'll call you when I get home.
What an awesome picture! Did you happen to order one more? If not, maybe I'll have to buy one myself when I finally get around to ordering Kylee's baptism CD!? Eeek! I am the worst sister! But seriously, what an amazing picture and what a wonderful experience. You are going to be such a great RS teacher!!
Wow! does not surprise me though. What great men. Boo, I'm sad I don't get to be in RS anymore! I'm sure your lessons are fabulous.
